Book: Show us a book you've read more than once.
I don't read books over and over again anymore because I don't have enough time to read and there are many good books out there that I have never heard of, but when I was a kid and didn't think about how little time I have, there were some books, or in some cases, series that I would re-read a lot.Favorite books were ones which made me forget I was growing up in Ohio, which is not such a bad place and was a great place to grow up but not a place that I saw myself staying. Anyway, this list turned out to be books I liked a lot when I was growing up.
What could be better than a girl who slays dragons?
Okay, this girl didn't slay dragons but she got fire lizards for pets.
As an adult, I can see how flawed the series was with the too perfect yet tragic hero with very musical and poetic sensibilities, but I fell for it. It was also the first series where I started to realize that historical fiction writers have a lot of research they have to do if they want to get the details right, which not every writer tries to do but Dunnett did. The other historical fiction stuff I read and enjoyed were the Mary Renault books although I didn't re-read those.
This one was one of the books I stole off my brother's bookshelf when he said I was too young to read it but I liked it and then kept having to re-read it later when it was assigned but still enjoyed it. I'd re-read it now actually. These covers make the stories seem inside like they would be very weighty and "classic" but they are fun adventures.
Who doesn't love the Three Musketeers?
I always ended up reading the scary parts, which would not have been scary during the day, at night. I worry about what the movie adaptations will do to these books. Oh, and I also loved the Narnia Chronicles but I don't feel like adding the pictures....
The devil visits Moscow. There are two translations out on the bookshelves. I've read both and think that both are good but others - such as my husband - have very strong opinions over which translation you should read. Just read it. It's a great book.
I loved these. I also read the Westmark series but I always favored the Prydain Chronicles. I liked Taran, how he changes over the series, the three witches. These books were always recommended in my school and library but they always felt like they were especially mine.
I have not re-read all of the HP books, just the first few ones a few times and then skimmed the rest repeatedly to try to remember what happened. I'm glad that the series is over though.
I've read most of Austen's stuff multiple times. There are moods when I can't stand it and moods when I can't get enough.A kid who grows up without reading Jules Verne really misses out. I loved voyages and Verne delivered some great ones.
There are more, which I will add, as I think of them.
I don't know how I forgot this one, but I read Anne of Green Gables a lot. I trudged through the first 50 pages because my best friend in 5th grade made me read it but after that I got hooked. I liked the following books in the series too. I have fantastical visions of Prince Edward Island because of it. I also liked Emily of New Moon but always felt a little sad for Anne that she didn't get as far professionally as Emily did. On the other hand, Anne had a lot more spirit, a lot more fun, I think received more education, and was a bit happier overall. Oh yeah, and I would take Gil over Teddy any day.
